Plants that influence your mind – angol tematikus szakvezetés

2025. október 26. 12.00

When we are sleepy, we drink a cup of coffee or tea;when we have trouble falling asleep, we take valerian tablets;and we cheer up our children with a cup of cocoa. In our everyday lives, we use plants (and fungi, of course) almost unnoticed to help alter our thoughts and behaviour. But is a cup of cocoa really the source of happiness? Why does coffee wake us up, and what other plants (and fungi, of course) are there that change how we think, feel, or behave?

During the walk, we will learn how tea ended the Dark Ages, what magic mushrooms do, and how a cactus becomes a sacred plant. We will talk about plants that alter our experience of self, cacti used in rituals, seeds that make us smarter, and learn how the side effects of certain plant substances can be used for healing.

We recommend this walk to those who are interested not only in plants but also in how our minds work.

This walk is led by Judit Mokos, PhD, who graduated as a biologist and, as a researcher, studied why people help each other. On this walk, she combines her hobby as a botanist with her profession as a behavioural researcher.

The walk will take about an hour and a half, part of it outdoors and part of it in greenhouses, so please dress appropriately.
